# What to automate?

In the race of automation, knowing *what* to automate is more important than *how* to automate it.

Focus on the right target. Look for the tasks that are:

- **Outliers**: one-off tasks requiring deep thinking. Keep these with humans.
- **Loops**: repetitive, low-value work, tasks that are unbalanced in terms of effort vs. outcomes. This is your opportunity.

Loop-tasks grow slowly, almost invisible, within organizations. Most of the time they are the root cause preventing companies from scaling.

Automate the loops.
